Correspondence, articles, and lectures of Carey, who was supervisor of institutional libraries in Minnesota, 1909-1927, regarding the work of the Minnesota Library Association, libraries during World War I and their organization in army camps, and the management of hospital, prison, and other institutional libraries. Included are her manuscripts of several short stories, correspondence with Perrie Jones and Zona Gale, and biographical data.

Zona Gale was a prominent writer and political activist born in Portage, Wisconsin. Gale attended the University of Wisconsin and worked as a reporter in Milwaukee. Gale, a lifelong friend of Jane Addams, became involved in the fight for the women's vote and eventually went to work for the writer Edmund Clarence Stedman.
